Just did a blog post on early thoughts about Jaiku. Not sure if it's just a microblogging service so interested in seeing how it evolves.

Google hasn't done much with a couple of the assets it purchased. This is one of them and Grand Central is another. They could be waiting on the sidelines to better determine the directions to take them as others flounder.
Remember when google bought writely, it dissapeared and now it's an integral part of many people's workflow.
As to jaiku it's the European version of friendfeed, but it was out months before. Both Jaiku and twitter came about at around the same time but whereas twitter was open and embraced by the European community twitter was embraced by the South West US community. As a result there was more written about twitter. Hence it's "dominance".
What I like about jaiku over twitter is the great mobile app for those with the n95. It's good because it allows you to follow all conversations from the (dis)comfort of your mobile phone. it means you don't need a computer and that's forward looking. Add to this that there are no api requests and you've got something reliable.
That's where you see it's edge over a service like twitter. Twitter is either SMS or api based websites. The problem with SMS is that they cost twitter a lot of money. The problem with API is that they result in a lot of requests which cost in server time.
As a result twitter is a rather minimal mobile experience. Jaiku is the opposite.
The twitter community is mainly PR people whilst the Jaiku community appears to be a lot of nokia users.
I like the service, and I like the comnunity that is here. I'm wishing more people would use it.
People tend to use things that help them the most. I'm very happy that Jaiku channels and unlimited Jaiku texting offer my creative multimedia students to remain connected when outside either our physical classrooms or out of wireless range of our virtual learning environment. Some people don't see the value in these things but they work a charm for me.
